WHAT DO WE DO

WE SAVE LIVES. We give these poor creatures a second chance in life. Our ultimate aim is to find loving, caring new homes for our rabbits but there is a lengthy process to go through before that happy day arrives which can take weeks if not months. Every rabbit who blesses our door immediately visits the Vets for a health check, vaccinations (VHD and MYXOMATOSIS), neutered and if they need medical treatment they get it, we never put a rabbit down. We spend time getting to know each individual rabbit, their nature, their personality, their little ways, a lot of them have never or have rarely been handled, we patiently work with them to bring out their true character, overcome any fears, calm any aggression and basically turn them into a lovely bunny.
Once we know a bunny well we then set out to find a suitable owner. Both bunny and owner must be compatible. A HOME CHECK is carried out to make sure second time around the bunny gets the correct housing, lifestyle, love and care they truly deserves. We keep in touch with all our customers and offer help support and advice day and night in all aspects of rabbit welfare. We also do bunny holidays when owners go away which is a nice way of keeping in touch for us and for the bunny.
We also have a few volunteers who help with the maintenance and well being of all the bunnies at the sanctuary. They help out in many different ways from, cleaning out, grooming, assessing the nature of any new bunnies that arrive at the sanctuary and also on a few occasions do home checks for the sanctuary. They also help out on the open days and help to give advice on all the bunnies in there care.

The BUNNY CAMP SANCTUARY is a family run, independent, non profit making Rescue Centre for rabbits that have been neglected, mistreated, abandoned or simply unloved. The Sanctuary opened its doors on 1.07.97 by Sonya and Jim McDonough with no financial help or backing relying heavily on kind donations and support from true animal lovers which contributes towards our average weekly food bill of £75 per week and the vets bill which is a bottomless pit. We can house up to 40 rabbits giving the chance of a new life.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

The Bunny Camp Sanctuary in Bradford is looking for more volunteers to help clean out our hutches on a regular basis. Over the past few years some of our volunteers have had to give up helping in this way as their circumstances have changed and we really need more help on a practical basis.
If you can commit to a few hours every week on an evening or a weekend and love rabbits and want to help us, we’d love to hear from you! It is physically demanding work and not for those who don’t like to get their hands dirty, but it is rewarding too. Not only will you be cleaning out the cages, which keep our bunnies happy and healthy, but also you’ll get to know our residents and their individual personalities. You’ll get to know about all the rehoming successes and occasionally the sad news too. You will also help with grooming and socialising the animals and putting them out for exercise. The rabbits really relish their play time and it’s a wonderful sight to behold. Depending on your level of experience you could learn an awful lot about rabbits too.You don’t need to be rabbit-experienced so long as you are enthusiastic and love animals, particularly rabbits. Of course, any rabbit experience is a bonus.
You’ll find that we are a friendly bunch of people who are all passionate about rabbit welfare and if you wish, you could also help with fund-raising.

If you’d like to know more, please ring Sonya McDonough on 01274 821665.
THANK YOU!

Jayne - Jayne has been a volunteer since January 2002! She first adopted Smokie and from there on has attended every open day except one, manning the Bunny Products stall. She also has seven other bunnies six of which came from the sanctuary.
Jayne has also raised hundreds of pounds arranging a sponsorship at Johnson & Johnson which has run since she began volunteering. She has also arranged an Easter raffle and Christmas raffle since the beginning.

Alison - Alison has been helping out at Bunny Camp for about 7 years. She has 2 rescued rabbits called Charlie and Sophie who are brother and sister who are almost 6 years old. She is a member of the Rabbit Welfare Association and helps Bunny Camp in the rabbitry and with home checks, updating the rabbit rehome website and library displays.

Paul with Cedric & Chris with Millie
- Joined the sanctuary in December 2002 after meeting Alison at the Leeds Hopper group. Alison suggested visiting the Sanctuary and they have been working as volunteers ever since. They are so loyal and have never missed a fundraising event since they joined. Paul also came up with the idea of the Bunny Camp News which he organised set up and is the Editor of and does a fantastic job.

Sarah & Jackson - Sarah has been a volunteer with the sanctuary for 6 years now. She created and maintains the Bunny Camp Website along with Sonya who feeds Sarah info for the site. Sarah and her husband Stephen recently got back from a Round the World trip, enoying the sights and trying to make more people aware of rabbits and rabbit welfare. They own Jackson a 10 year old English Spot.
